A Thornthwaite miniature net radiometer was placed in operation at the Mahlon Sweet Municipal Airport, Eugene, Oregon, in June 1967 to further explore the instrument's potential as a tool in short-range fog and stratus forecasting. This experiment was a second attempt to determine a correlation of radiative cooling and heating as recorded by the net radiometer with the onset of fog or low stratus. Earlier, a similar experiment was conducted at Los Angeles International Airport with the same instrument and evaluated by Thomas. In addition this paper explores the use of the radiometer in predicting dissipation of fog and/or low stratus. (Author)
