摘要

This paper discusses power losses and their distribution under a moving traction wheel. Both theoretical and experimental methods were used to quantify the power losses. The losses of primary concern are those due to friction, flow, both longitud¬inally and transveresely, and compaction. Other less important losses are mentioned, but not studied. The paper points out that the power losses due to traction are often as large as 50 percent and that even in good field conditions the tractive power loss will usually exceed 20 percent.
