Discussed are the refractory coatings resulting from the spraying of metal borides and nitrides by a plasma gun. The mechanical, physical, and structural properties of the following compounds are discussed: Chromium borides (CrB, CrB2); Molybdenum borides (MoB, Mo2B5); Lanthanum boride (LiB6); Titanium nitride (TiN); Zirconium nitride (ZrN); and Tantalum nitride (TaN).
