Electronic EEG Frequency Analysis for Evaluation of Uremia

摘要

The lack of identification of most of the toxic factors in uremia has accentuated a need for measurement of the physiologic consequences of renal failure to promote our understanding of the pathogenesis of the uremic syndrome and our management of uremic patients. Previously the EEG was quantitated in forty uremic patients by the technique of hand counting. It was found that one could quantitate EEG slowing in uremia, that this slowing was reversed by adequate treatments or recovery, and this quantitation provided a guide to the effectiveness of management and understanding of uremia. This study also demonstrated that hand counting was too laborious and demanding a technique for general use. This report deals with efforts to find a satisfactory instrument to replace hand counting for quantitative analysis of EEG's. (Author)
