The purpose of this paper is to facilitate the analysis and design of pressure fed journal bearings. Numerical solutions of Reynolds' equation are obtained for full finite jour¬nal bearings for the widely used case of L/D = 1. It is found that the performance char¬acteristics of the bearing, mainly the side flow, depend not only on the Sommerfeld number but also on the groove dimensions and on the oil supply pressure. The calculated characteristics are compared with experimental measurements. Correlation is good, leading to the conclusion that the theoretical data are effective for design analysis of pres¬sure fed journal bearings.
