COMPACTION OF AN UNSATURATED SOIL UNDER A GENERAL STATE OF STRESS

Soil samples, compacted hydrostatically to different levels of mean stress, were strained axially at con¬stant mean stress with either σ2 = σ3, σ2 = σm or σ2 = σ1. Maximum compaction occurred when σ2 =σ3. An equation was developed to predict the amount of compaction for these loading paths.
