Concepts of non-equilibrium processes are applied to the tillage process. The time dependent interaction at the soil-tool interface was treated as a random process. Experimental studies were conducted with an inclined plane connected to a rigid shank and a bounded artificial soil. It was found that the random process description of the interaction had a Gaussian amplitude distribution and an exponential snecosine autocorrelation function.
