In an acid medium three types of reduced forms of the dictation of porphyrin may exist, the di-, tetra-, and hexaftydroderivatives of the initial pigment. The hydroderivatives of the dication of porphyrin can be obtained both as a result of photochemical reduction in an acid medium in the presence of a reducing agent and also by transferring the neutral molecules of the" reduced forms of por¬phyrin into an acid medium. The di- and tetrahydroderivatives have characteristic absorption bands around 450 and 500 mu, respectively. The hexahydroderivative does not have bands in the visible region • of the spectrum. The similarity of the spectral characteristics of the reduced forms of the porphyrin dication and of the reduced forms of metalloporphyrin indicates the similarity of molecular structures.
