High Dielectric Thick Films for Screened Circuit Capacitors

State-of-the-art dielectric films for screened hybrid microcircuits consist of ceramic particles mechanically suspended in low dielectric glass and have dielectric constants less than 100. Techniques and materials have been developed to obtain high dielectric films which are deposited and recrystallized, in place, on alumina substrates for integration into a complete circuit. These films consist of barium titanate particles bound by smaller grained barium titanate which has been recrystallized out of glass. They have dielectric constants of 300 to 800. Data are presented on the dielectric properties and spontaneous polarization over a wide range of temperature and frequency. Current work and applications with the recrystallized ferroelectric films are discussed. (Author)
