The Fracture Toughness of a Series of Experimental High Strength Steels

An attempt is made to determine the effects of seven elements commonly alloyed in high-strength steels on the strength and fracture toughness. The ultimate aim is to obtain the relevant information necessary for the development of steels having the best combination of both these properties. Factorial designs and analysis offers a quick and effective method for determining the effects and interactions of the seven elements investigated. In this type of design it is necessary to specify high and low levels for the alloy additions. (Author)
