摘要

The purpose of the conferences was to enable university research workers in the field of earthquake engineering to exchange information on their current work and to help them plan and coordinate future research programs to provide society with an economic means of combating the earthquake hazard. Probability studies in seismicity are aimed at providing sufficient information to make rational decisions weighing economic and seismic risk; random vibration studies give information on the probability of structures surviving earthquakes; experimental studies provide information on the actual behavior of structural materials and components under earthquake loading.
