摘要

The major objective of this work was to develop behavioral methods for detecting the course and severity of experimentally induced renal insufficiency in the subhuman primate and to examine the degree of correlation of behavioral measures with known or suspected biochemical and physiological indices of chronic uremia in man. The purpose was to clarify basic mechanisms of renal insufficiency that might be of value in the detection and treatment of progressive renal failure in man. To carry out this work it was necessary (1) to develop an animal model of chronic renal insufficiency and (2) to monitor behavioral, biochemical, and physiological measures of renal insufficiency and evaluate their intercorrelation. For report purposes, the research effort has been divided into four categories: (1) surgical production of animal models, (2) biochemical and physiological measures, (3) behavioral tests, and (4) electrophysiological tests.
