A quasilinearization technique is developed to treat nonlinear integro-differential equations encountered in a variety of problems involving metal structures undergoing creep deformations. To illustrate the quasilinearization approach to this kind of functional equations, an example involving the computation of the lateral deflections of an axially loaded imperfect bar is developed and thoroughly investigated. The creep law used is given by a nonlinear integral operator incorporating the strain and stress, a function describing the nonlinearity of creep, and a function representative of the rate at which creep occurs.
