Development of Procedures for Process Inspection of Heavy Media Beneficiation Plants for Coarse Aggregate

The object of the study was to develop and demonstrate heavy media separation plant controls that will assure an aggregate of such high quality that sampling inspection can be supplemented by occasional process inspection. A pilot plant was constructed in the laboratory for the purpose of investigating the measurement of specific gravity, consistancy and stability of medium; determining specific gravity distributions by heavy liquid separations to evaluate performance of the plant; measuring size, shape and surface characteristics of gravel; measuring the effects of medium contaminants; and determining effect of size structures of media on consistance and stability of circulating mediums.
