Clay Mineralogy and Chemistry of Selected Johnson County, Arkansas, Soils and Effects on Their Engineering Properties

Representative samples of the major horizons of five principal soil series of Johnson County, Arkansas (derived from various types of alluvium) were tested and analyzed in the laboratory for particle size distribution, cation exchange relations, surface area, maximum density-optimum moisture, pH, organic matter, kinds and amounts of clay minerals, Atterberg limits, amorphous materials. The data are used to provide qualitative estimates and explanations of engineering usages and properties of the soils. (BPR abstract)
