Electrolytic Oxidation of Carbonaceous Ores for Improving Gold Recovery

Carbonaceous gold-bearing ores of the type that occur in northeastern Nevada were investigated. Specific objectives were to identify the carbon and organic compounds that prevent adequate gold recovery from this type of ore by cyanidation and to develop an economical process that would overcome the detrimental effect of the carbonaceous constituents. Activated-type carbon and longchain organic compounds containing sulfur and nitrogen were found in the ore. Part of the material consisted of stable gold organic complexes. (Author)
