Determination of the Stiffnesses of an Elastic Filler Constrained Between a Rigid Sphere and a Rigid Ellipsoidal Shell

The report investigates an elastic medium which is constrained within a rigid ellipsoidal shell and which contains a rigid spherical inclusion that is initially concentric with the principal axis of the rigid ellipsoidal shell. The effects of the inclusion's motions, relative to the shell, on the stiffness of the elastic medium are calculated. Spherical and cylindrical outside shells are also considered as limiting cases of the ellipsoid. The results compare favorably with available analytical and experimental data. (Author)
