An Ozone Measurement in the Stratosphere and Lower Mesosphere by Means of a Rocket Sonde

A sounding rocket has been used to carry a chemiluminescent detector through the upper stratosphere and into the mesosphere in order to measure the ozone content in those areas. The vehicle contains a self pumping system that exposes the detector constantly regardless of altitude as the device is lowered from apogee by a specially designed, high-altitude parachute. With appropriate electronics, this permits measurement of the ozone flux at selected altitudes. (Author)
