Proposed Method for Aerodynamic Mathematical Analyses

The primary objective of this report is to establish and assure an understanding of the methodology to be employed in the aerodynamic mathematical model development and of the dependence of these mathematical models on the physical models. This dependence is characterized by the requirement of empirical input for the mathematical model. The analytical development outlined herein relates at present to the evaluation of air flow rates resulting from piston action of trains moving in single track tunnel. Future efforts will be geared towards expanding the analysis to take into account the interaction of piston effect and forced mechanical ventilation, as well as multiple track subway systems, with and without ventilation, as well as multiple tracks.
