Studies on the Toxicity of Nsc 111071, Carbenicillin Following I.V. Administration to Beagle Dogs when Administered Alone or Simultaneously with Gentamicin

Carbenicillin, NSC 111071, was nontoxic to beagle dogs when administered intravenously alone or simultaneously with gentamicin. The dose regimens used were (1). carbenicillin, 200 mg/kg q/4hrs. x 6 x 7 days, and, (2). carbenicillin, 200 mg/kg and gentamicin 0.6 mg/kg q/4hrs. x 6 x 7 days. Neither dose regimen produced any overt toxic signs in the animals, nor any significant changes in the hematology, blood chemistry, or urine, nor any gross or histopathology in the animals. During the course of the study transient decreases were noted in the erythroid elements of the animals and the leucocyte counts were decreased, particularly in the animals treated with both drugs, but none of these changes were reflected in any signs of toxicity or evidence of pathology.
