Works of Volcanism: Sites Recommended as Potential Natural Landmarks

Volcanic landforms and nineteen principal volcanic fields in the United States are described. Specific sites in each field are described as good examples of specific landforms. A description, priority, references and topographic maps are included for many sites. This preliminary working draft contains maps showing locations of sites recommended as potential natural landmarks or for possible inclusion in the National Park System in only six of the 19 volcanic fields covered in the study. The six fields are: Hawaiian Islands, Alaska Peninsula and Aleutian Islands, Cascade Range, Columbia River Plateau, Modic Plateau, and Snake River Plains. Maps showing locations of sites in the remaining 13 volcanic fields are being prepared for inclusion in the final revision of the study.
