An Industrial Hygiene Survey of the Great Western Limestone Mine Crushing and Screening Mill in Horse Creek, Wyoming

Noise levels were measured and air and dust samples were analyzed for free silica and respirable airborne dusts during an industrial hygiene survey of the Great Western Limestone Mine Crushing and Screening Mill (SIC-3281) in Horse Creek, Wyoming during February 1970. Respirable dust concentrations ranged from 0.3 to 0.9 milligrams per cubic millimeters and the percentage of free silica ranged from 82 to 113 decibels. The authors conclude that airborne dust concentrations did not present a health hazard but upper respiratory tract discomfort and irritation could be alleviated by the use of respirators. They note that hearing loss hazards existed, and recommend the use of suitable hearing protective devices.
