The National Dialysis Registry. Development of a Medical Registry of Patients on Chronic Dialysis

During the last year, The National Dialysis Registry initiated collection, collation, and analysis of data on patients in the United States who have irreversible renal failure or insufficiency and who are receiving extracorporeal hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis as longterm management of kidney dysfunction or absence of kidneys. Initial data collection from a dialysis center is done by means of a Dialysis Patient Census Form. In the operation and maintenance of The National Dialysis Registry, absolute confidentiality of the data provided is maintained. Descriptions of the various statistical analyses and the reports provided to the National Institutes of Arthritis and Metabolic Disease, as well as those provided the participating centers, are described in the following sections of this report. To date these analyses cover a total of 2874 patients in 222 centers.
