Implantable Impermeable Encapsulants for Artificial Organs.

摘要

Implantable electronic devices for long-term use require encapsulants which are highly impermeable to body electrolytes. Synthetic materials such as plastics and silicone rubber have been shown to be permeable,whereas synthetic and natural waxes were shown to be adequately impermeable to electrolytes. Unimpregnated encapsulants in a test rig of high sensitivity (0-1000 megohms). This research has shown that silicone rubber impregnated with wax during vulcanization is impermeable to electrolytes,is tissue compatible and durable.
