Study of Nutritional Requirements of Patients on Chronic Hemodialysis.

Clinical and animal studies have confirmed the value of dihydrotachysterol in augmenting calicum absorption from the gut. This augmentation was most pronounced in dialysed uremic versus nondialyzed uremics. Fluoridated dialysate did not appear to change bone density or have untoward effects except for a distinct rise in serum alkaline phosphatase. A chronically uremic rat model appears to be similar to human uremics. They are presently working on the synthesis of Vitamin D analogues. (Author)
