Hollow Filament Fabric Blood Oxygenator.

摘要

Two oxygenators having as active elements many layers of fabric woven from hollow filaments have been made and evaluated. Canine blood has been oxygenated at a flow rate of 1900ml/min,and indications are that if more fabric were available,this could be increased to 3500ml/min. Studies have shown that blood suffers only minimal trauma in flowing through the device. Some 45candidate hollow filaments have been tested in a search for more permeable hollow filaments. Performance has been improved but it is not yet adequate. The satisfactory ventilation of CO2has not been demonstrated. (NHLI abstract)
