An analysis of the wave interaction disturbing antenna system is presented. The system is a linear, broadside array of 1.3 wavelength elements with .5 wavelength parasitic directors. It is designed to operate at a frequency of 4.5 MHz. The theoretical radiation patterns of the array are derived and plotted for the designed frequency and the second and third harmonics. Using a scale model, the radiation patterns are obtained experimentally for the three frequencies. Various modifications are made on the model which simulate the same changes on the full-scale system. These changes were made to test whether the existing system could be improved. At the harmonics, it was found that the side lobes increase and that most of the energy is radiated off the vertical. A marked improvement in the beamwidth and side-lobe level of the system at the fundamental occurred if reflectors were used with the driven elements. (Author)
