A performance study was conducted to determine the reliability of ozone (10028156) detector tubes. All the types of tubes available in the US were studied using concentrations of 0.5, 1, 2, and 5 times the threshold limit value (0.50 parts per million). Ozone was generated at known concentrations by irradiating a stream of purified air with a very stable low pressure mercury lamp. Of the two brands of tubes evaluated, neither met the acceptance standards. The Drager CH-313 tube was acceptable within an alternate accuracy limit of plus or minus 50%. The stain lengths were very short at the lower concentrations, and there was a significant amount of fading at the endpoint of the stain. The MSA 93865 tube was unacceptable at all concentrations tested.
