Nitrogen Removal from Wastewaters.

Classically,sewage treatment has been directed toward the removal of suspended solids,biochemical oxygen demand and reduction of bacterial contaminants. Removal of nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen has been incidental to treatment processes. The rapid increase in severe eutrophication problems in recent years has focused attention on nutrient control from municipal sources. The report provides a state of the knowledge on nitrogen removal. The contents include: Nitrogen removal from wastewaters--statement of the problem;Nitrogen removal by biological suspended growth reactors;Nitrogen removal by column reactors;Ammonia nitrogen removal by stripping with air;Removal of ammonia nitrogen by selective ion exchange;Ion exchange for nitrate removal;Other methods for removing nitrogen;Salt Creek two state nitrification plant.
