Electro-Regeneration of Ion-Exchange Resins.

摘要

The technical feasibility of electro-regeneration of ion-exchange resins was demonstrated. Mixed beds of ion-exchange resins that had been used to deionize a salt solution were regenerated in situ in the depleting compartments of an electrodialysis cell. The electrical conductivities of five cation-exchange resins and ten anion-exchange resins in several ionic forms were measured. This appears to be a promising technique for deionizing water for use in hemodialysis,which requires a device to deionize tap water at a rate of 10gal/hr. Feed solutions of NaCl are easily demineralized by this technique. Heavy metals and F(-) can also be removed. The presence of Ca(++) and HCO3(-) ions in the feed causes problems in electro-regeneration,but these ions can be removed by pretreating. (Author)
