Qualitative Analysis of Steelworks Materials by Thin Layer Chromatography

Many samples submitted to analytical laboratories are of unknown composition and an initial qualitative analysis is often useful as a guide to selecting suitable quantitative analytical methods.nA scheme of analysis proposed by Sherwood1 was selected for investigation. In this scheme thirty elements were separated by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and then identified by spraying with various organic reagents which formed metal complexes.
