Biologically Derived Collagen Membranes and Surfaces: Their Application to Problems of Hemodialysis and Chronic Uremia.

摘要

Animal collagen was extracted from hides with proteolytic enzymes,purified and solubilized for use as a raw material for biomaterial. Dialysis casing was prepared by extrussion and evaluated for hemodialysis. In vitro studies revealed mechanical properties similar to cuprophane but with a greater degree of malleability in terms of chemical,physical and biological properties. Initial clinical testing reveals the membranes to be non-toxic and well tolerated. (Author)
