摘要

At approximately 1907 e.d.t.,on July 19, 1970,United Air Lines,Flight 611, a Boeing 737-222, N9005U,crashed shortly after taking off from the Philadelphia International Airport,Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. There were no fatalities. Among 55passengers and six crewmembers, 17passengers were injured, one seriously, and one crewmember received minor injuries. Examination of the left (No. 1) engine revealed that a first-stage turbine blade failed. Disassembly of the right (No. 2) engine and functional testing of its components revealed that the engine was operating in the air, during the thrust reversing cycle, and until the engine impacted the ground. The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the probable cause of this accident was the termination of the takeoff, after the No. 1engine failed,at a speed above V2at a height of approximately 50feet,with insufficient runway remaining to effect a safe landing.
