Basic Research in Crashworthiness II. Low Speed Impact Tests of Unmodified Vehicles.

The results of four tests of standard automobiles impacting S.A.E. and pole barriers are presented. Two of the test vehicles were full size 1969Ford sedans and two were 1971Chevrolet Vega 2300 sedans. Impact velocities were approximately 8 MPH. Three instrumented unrestrained anthropometric dummies were on-board each test vehicle,two in the front seats and one in the right rear position. Passenger compartment accelerations are presented along with accelerations recorded in the head,chest and pelvic areas of the dummies. Occupant accelerations are compared briefly with human tolerance data and it is concluded that no severe injuries would have resulted in the four tests. (Author)
