Improved Tensile Strength for Cement-Treated Bases and Subbases.

The report summarizes the findings of an evaluation and interpretation of the results from previous studies concerning the tensile and shrinkage characteristics of cement-treated materials. Findings of studies performed at the Center for Highway Research to determine the tensile characteristics of cement-treated materials are summarized and detailed discussion of the findings of a number of studies to determine the shrinkage properties of cement-treated materials is presented. The effects on tensile strength produced by eight factors previously shown to be important are analyzed in detail and the effects are evaluated in terms of their significance and relationship to shrinkage cracking of cement-treated materials.
