Rapid Major Element Mine Dust Analyzer.

摘要

The objective of this project was to investigate the feasibility of analytical techniques potentially capable of determining Mg,Al,Si, S,Ca,and Fe in 1to 2mg samples of respirable coal mine dust,in a total analysis time of not more than 10minutes per sample,using equipment capable of being truck mounted for field-laboratory operation. Respirable mine dust is that fraction of airborne dust in coal mines that is breathed in and retained in miners'lungs. The particle size distribution so retained is in the range of 0.1to 5microns,peaking at about 1micron. The techniques investigated were a-particle scattering,neutron activitation,electron excitation of characteristic X-rays (using either an electron gun or a radioisotope source), a-particle excitation of characteristic X-rays,and X-ray fluorsecence with both radioisotope and X-ray tube excitation.
