摘要

Biomaterials have been evaluated in an in vivo screening test which employs standard inferior vena cava rings implanted for two hours or two weeks in dogs. Materials which are consistently free of thrombus when inspected after two hours implantation as standard vena cava rings are defined as having moderate thromboresistance. Materials which are consistently free of thrombus after two weeks of ring implantation are considered to show significant thromboresistance. During the reporting period,materials evaluated included polyelectrolytes, hydrogels, heparinized polymers,fluorosilicone elastomers,pyrolytic carbons,surfactant-containing polymers, sulfonated polymers,polyurethane co-polymers,electrets,and polymers containing amino acid and crotonic acid constituents.
