The Inelastic Analysis of Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete Beams.

The report describes an approach for the analysis of beams using a tangent stiffness finite element incremental method applied to a layered element. Each layer has its own modified Ramberg-Osgood type stress strain curve and may have inelastic,cracking and crushing non-linearities. Comparisons with laboratory tests of two reinforced and eleven prestressed concrete beams are presented. The agreement between analytic and laboratory load deflection curves is quite good. The method described uses a plane sections assumption to reduce the computational effort. Considerations of flexural shear are also presented. (Author)
