摘要

E. coli L-Asparaginase (L-Asnase) when administered intravenously in a dose of 5,000 I.U./kg x 1was lethal to two of three rabbits 35hours post treatment. Toxic signs noted preterminally included muscle tremors, head retraction, salivation, hyperpnea, convulsions, increase in rectal temperature, prostration, decrease in plasma calcium and an increase in plasma phosphorus. In contrast rabbits treated with 5,000 I.U./kg x 1of L-Asnase from Erwinia carotovora survived the study and showed none of the toxic signs experienced by the animals treated with E. coli L-Asnase except for a mild decrease in plasma calcium. The rectal temperatures of these animals showed a slight decrease. The parathyroids of the animals treated with E. coli L-Asnase showed a greater increase in oxyphil cells than that noted in the parathyroids of the animals treated with L-Asnase from Erwinia carotovora and those of the control animals.
