A Vibratory Compaction Test Method for Granular Materials.

摘要

A test method was developed to establish density requirements for compaction control of granular materials. The Federal Highway Works Administration method features compaction by an electrically powered vibratory rammer. The new method was developed after several modifications of standard AASHO impact test methods T 99and T 180failed to eliminate their shortcomings when they were used for testing granular materials. To increase the density by T 99and minimize the degradation by T 180,the following modifications were tried: inclusion of a rubber disc between the compaction rammer and surface of the material,use of a fixed-head type rammer,and measurement of the volume of the compacted specimen without trimming. ASTM Method D 2049was also found unsatisfactory for establishing density requirements for many types of highway subbase and base course materials.
