After-Waxing of Sized Cotton and Polyester-Cotton Blend Yarns

After-waxing of filament yarns is a common practice in the synthetic weaving industry. However, very little information is available on after-waxing of spun cotton and polyester/cotton blend warps. Analysis of different softeners has been carried out to find a suitable substance for after-waxing. A study has been made of the effect of the speed of the waxing roll, temperature of the waxing bath, the angle of the sized yarn to the waxing roll etc. on the amount of wax applied on the yarn. The properties of waxed yarns have been investigated. The results of large scale trials conducted to investigate the effect of after waxing on warp breaks in the loom-shed are reported. It is found that after-waxing reduces the hairiness of sized yarns, and warp breaks on the loom.
