The Automation Research Council, Proceedings of the Health Services Industry Workshop held at Easton, Maryland on June 6-9, 1973

Workshop participants described future needs for automation in the health services industry and recommended research and development. The program is part of the Automation Research Council's mission to serve an assembly point and advisory group for professionals in the health services industry who are involved in advanced automation. Twenty-nine presentations discuss various aspects of automation in the field. Several deal with automation needs and potentialities in medical history taking, covering automation needs and current developments in medical data management systems. Automation applications and needs in health screening are described together with the future of automation in medical visual inspection processes. The role of automation in city, state, and regional emergency health care is discussed, including supportive functions, facilities, equipment communication systems, and staff education. A series of papers project the future of automation in hematology, radiology, monitoring of the chronically ill, diagnosis, decision-making, hospital data processing, and hospital automation.
