A particular purpose of the workshop was to identify the research needs in various areas of earthquake engineering and to recommend the most appropriate experimental procedures for the solution of those needs. The types of experimental work considered were: Observations and reports of damage or structural behavior during earthquakes; Tests using medium-and large size shaking tables; Static and dynamic laboratory tests on components, full size or scaled structures, soil samples, etc.; Use of high explosive or nuclear detonations, and Field tests or static and dynamic tests of actual structures.
