摘要

This study provides an evaluation of the effectiveness of mine tailings ponds as a means of minimizing or reducing the flow of acids,dissolved solids,tailings,and heavy metal ions into the surrounding environment. It also suggests several types of treatments or methods that would reduce the discharge of undesirable materials from the tailings ponds. Samples of tailings pond inflows,outflows, seepages and stream water above and below the tailings ponds were collected from seven major operating mines in the Coeur d'Alene district. They were analyzed for 13elements,along with chlorides,fluorides,electrical conductivity,pH,and temperature.
