摘要

The influence of Nb on the toughness of submerged arc welds has been examined using the charpy V-notch impact test. The behavior of the weld metals studied was rationalized in terms of the effect of Nb upon the structure of the weld bead and in particular its role in promoting the formation of retained martensitic micro-constituents in the acicular ferrite matrix. These have been shown to play an important part in determining the as-welded and stress-relieved properties of the deposit. A model has been developed and practical recommendations are made.
