On the Optimal Construction of Transversely Loaded Plywood Plates

In this work, plate analysis was effected by application of the orthotropic plate theory, with optimization being carried out with respect to both the deflection and the stresses. A presentation is made of the general principles and flow diagrams of the methods of optimization employed. The main variable is the aspect ratio of the plate. Additionally, an examination has been made of the effect of boundary conditions, loading area and veneer species upon the optimum. The results derived are presented graphically.
