The manual provides instructions for installing,operating,and maintaining protective canopies on the Joy Mfg. Co. cutter. The primary function of the protective canopies is to protect the operator of the cutter against roof falls. The basic configuration consists of an understructure that supports a hydraulic adjusting system which,in turn,supports and raises and lowers the canopy. The canopy has an expanded metal mesh top that prevents hazardous-size debris from falling upon the operator. Other protective features include deflection bumpers,which prevent large slabs or rocks from entering the protective canopy work station but do not limit the operator's visibility; a spring-return,swing-down bumper for side protection against rib rolls or collisions with the rib or other equipment;and controls for raising and lowering each canopy individually.
