The paper constitutes,in a very broad sense, a compendium of technical criteria to be met by applicants in the several radio services under the jurisdiction of the Federal Communications Commission. It presents the national and international bases upon which many of those criteria were developed and the origin of various constraints inhibiting the freedom of choice in making frequency assignments to individual stations. The report is intended to provide an insight to the overall task of those engaged in mangaement of the radio spectrum,insofar as individual frequency assignments are concerned.
