摘要

Work was carried out to assess the quantitative effect of surface oxides on the recovery of hydrogen from steel samples and to quantify further the need for surface preparation prior to analysis. It has been shown that,depending upon the surface area of the sample,the presence of an oxide coating reduces the amount of determined hydrogen by about 12per cent compared with that recovered from an initially cleaned sample,whereas,if the oxide coating is removed by the preparative method recommended in the report the hydrogen recovered is only reduced by about 3per cent.
