Mining in the Outer Continental Shelf and in the Deep Ocean

摘要

This report examines the potential of the oceans as a U.S. resource for mineral recovery, evaluates the state of the art of mining exploration and mineral recovery, and considers the environmental questions involved. It identifies the legal, regulatory, and jurisdictional problems and attempts to determine how to meet the needs for trained engineers in mining of the oceans. Assessments are made of the potential availability of hard minerals, with estimates of quantity, and value.
